  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled puff pastry until ¼ inch thick and transfer to the baking sheet.
  4. Score the pastry into thirds vertically and cut diagonal slits on the outer sections.
  5. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly down the center of the puff pastry.
  6. Fold the sliced edges of the pastry over the filling in a crisscross pattern.
  7. Beat the egg with water to create an egg wash and brush it on the pastry.
  8. Bake for 18–22 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
  9. Allow to cool on a wire rack for 10–15 minutes, then dust with powdered sugar and add berries if desired.
