  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour can substitute with a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder no substitutions recommended
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda essential for the overall baking structure
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt sea salt is preferred for taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Nutmeg freshly grated for better flavor
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon can replace with allspice for a different flavor
  • 1 cup Eggnog store-bought works perfectly
  • 1/2 cup Butter can substitute with margarine if needed
  • 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar brown sugar can be used for more caramel flavor
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar light or dark brown sugar can be used
  • 1 large Egg use a flax egg for a vegan option
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract consider using pure extract for better flavor
For the Frosting
  • 8 ounces Cream Cheese can substitute with mascarpone cheese
  • 2 cups Confectioners’ Sugar sift before using for a smoother consistency
  • 2 tablespoons Additional Eggnog use the same type as for cookies

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, and ground cinnamon.
  3. Beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the egg and eggnog to the creamed mixture and beat until fully combined, about 1 minute.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients and mix on low speed until just combined.
  6. Drop rounded balls of dough onto a lined baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
  7. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. In a clean bowl, beat together the cream cheese, confectioners’ sugar, and additional eggnog until smooth.
  9. Once cooled, frost the cookies with the cream cheese frosting and consider decorating with extra nutmeg.
