Preparation Steps
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and sauté the diced onions until translucent. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- Add ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned and no pink remains, seasoning with Italian herbs, salt, and pepper.
- Slice zucchini into thin rounds and sprinkle with salt. Pat dry with paper towels.
- Layer half of the zucchini slices at the bottom of the baking dish.
- Spoon half of the cooked ground beef mixture over the zucchini, layer with half of your tomato sauce, and sprinkle half of your chosen cheese on top.
- Repeat the layering process with remaining zucchini, beef mixture, tomato sauce, and cheese.
- Bake for 40 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden brown. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Slice into portions and serve warm, optionally with salad or garlic bread.
