Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and sauté the diced onions until translucent. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  3. Add ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned and no pink remains, seasoning with Italian herbs, salt, and pepper.
  4. Slice zucchini into thin rounds and sprinkle with salt. Pat dry with paper towels.
  5. Layer half of the zucchini slices at the bottom of the baking dish.
  6. Spoon half of the cooked ground beef mixture over the zucchini, layer with half of your tomato sauce, and sprinkle half of your chosen cheese on top.
  7. Repeat the layering process with remaining zucchini, beef mixture, tomato sauce, and cheese.
  8. Bake for 40 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden brown. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
  9. Slice into portions and serve warm, optionally with salad or garlic bread.
