Ingredients

For the Popcorn
  • 10 cups Popcorn Use unsalted for a balanced flavor; air-popped or microwave popcorn are great alternatives.
For the Coating
  • 3 tablespoons Butter This provides richness and aids in melting marshmallows smoothly; margarine can be a dairy-free substitute.
  • 3 cups Mini Marshmallows They create a sweet, sticky coating that binds the popcorn.
For the Sweetness
  • 1 cups Regular M&Ms (Red and Green) Offer festive color and extra sweetness.
  • 1 cups Pretzel M&Ms Add a delightful salty crunch to the mix.
  • 1 cups Christmas Sprinkles They enhance the festive appearance.

Equipment

  • Air popper or microwave
  • medium saucepan
  • Large mixing bowl
  • spatula
  • Parchment paper
  • Cookie sheet

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Begin by popping 10 cups of unseasoned popcorn using an air popper or microwave. Once popped, pour the popcorn into a large mixing bowl. Carefully remove any unpopped kernels, then sprinkle salt liberally while the popcorn is still warm.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt 3 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Stir gently to ensure the butter melts evenly without browning.
  3. Quickly add 3 cups of mini marshmallows to the melted butter in the saucepan. Stir continuously over low heat until the marshmallows are completely melted and the mixture is smooth and shiny.
  4. Gradually pour about a third of the melted marshmallow mixture over the popped popcorn. Using a spatula, gently fold the popcorn to ensure it’s well coated.
  5. Once the popcorn is fully coated, line a cookie sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup. Transfer the coated popcorn onto the sheet and spread it out evenly.
  6. While the popcorn is still warm, sprinkle a mix of red and green M&Ms, pretzel M&Ms, additional mini marshmallows, and colorful Christmas sprinkles over the surface.
  7. Allow the popcorn to cool completely on the cookie sheet at room temperature.
  8. If there are any leftovers, store your Santa Crunch Popcorn in an airtight container at room temperature.
