Cooking Steps
- In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until well browned, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the diced onion and minced garlic, stirring frequently until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in the ketchup, barbecue sauce, and brown sugar. Mix thoroughly for 1-2 minutes until bubbling.
- Drain and rinse the beans, then fold them into the sauce mixture. Cook for about 2 minutes, stirring gently.
- Lower the heat to simmer and cover the pot, allowing to simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- After simmering, taste and adjust seasonings if needed. Stir and incorporate any adjustments for flavor.
- For deeper flavor, preheat oven to 350°F, transfer mixture to a baking dish, and bake uncovered for 10-15 minutes.
- Remove from oven, cool slightly, and serve warm with cornbread or your favorite sides.
