Steps to Prepare
- In a medium saucepan, combine the whole milk and half of the granulated sugar over medium-low heat.
- Whisk together the remaining sugar, large egg yolks, vanilla extract, and salt in a separate bowl until smooth and creamy.
- Gradually pour the hot milk into the egg yolk mixture while whisking continuously to temper the eggs.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium-low heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
- Strain the custard through a fine mesh sieve into a clean bowl.
- Set the bowl in an ice bath to cool until room temperature, then refrigerate for at least one hour.
- Serve warm or cold over your favorite desserts.
