Step-by-Step Instructions for Ultimate Mac and Cheese Recipe
  1. Begin by bringing a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil over high heat. Once boiling, add your pasta and cook for about 7-8 minutes, or until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat, stirring continuously. Whisk in ¼ cup of flour, cooking until bubbly and smooth.
  3. Slowly pour in about 2 cups of milk while whisking vigorously. Stir continuously for around 5-7 minutes until the mixture thickens.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and gradually stir in 2 cups of shredded sharp cheddar cheese until fully melted and smooth.
  5. Add the drained pasta directly into the cheese sauce, stirring gently until each piece is well-coated.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour the mac and cheese mixture into a greased baking dish. Sprinkle ½ cup of breadcrumbs over the top and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
